Uses

Mimosa Pudica lacks a historical history of medicinal use, but antibiotic, antiviral, sedative and anti-gyneco-obstetric properties have been detected in it.

Phytochemical studies of this plant have revealed that the whole extract has antibiotic activity against the powerful bacterium "Staphylococcus aureus", which lodges in the throat and causes skin and soft tissue infections, pneumonia, endocarditis or osteomyelitis.

Research carried out in India shows the effectiveness of this plant in people affected by Parotitis, which is a viral disease that causes a painful hypertrophy of the salivary glands. It has also been mentioned that the root extract neutralizes the venom of some poisonous animals and snakes such as the Indian Cobra or Spectacled Cobra, the Russell's Viper and the Gariba Viper.

Others uses

  • Healing activity (With the methanolic stem and root extract.) This is partly due to the phenolic constituents in both extracts.

  • Antimicrobial activity (With methanolic extracts.) This antagonistic activity is mainly attributed to the presence of terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, etc.

  • Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity (With the ethanolic extract of leaves.) In doses of 200 and 400 mg / kg it has shown negative effects against edema, and analgesic effects. According to some researchers this is due to certain flavonoids.

  • Anti-convulsant (With the infusion of leaves.) Placed intraperitoneally, it has shown antagonistic effects against inducers of convulsions in rats.

  • Antidiarrheal activity (With ethanolic leaf extracts.) According to the researchers, this is largely due to the tannins and flavonoids present in the extracts.

  • Against infertility (With extracts of the root system.) Orally administered prolongs the time of the estrous cycle in laboratory rats. In addition, it has been shown under laboratory conditions that root extract is related to gonadotropin levels.

  • Antioxidant activity (With the methanolic extract of aerial parts.) It has shown moderate antioxidant activity in comparison with ascorbic acid.

  • Anti-malarial activity (With the ethanolic extract of leaves.) They have shown antagonistic activity, in vitro, against Plasmodium berghei, which is a parasite that causes malaria in certain rodents. According to the researchers, this is due to constituents such as terpenoids, flavonoids, and alkaloids.

  • Against insomnia, it is used as a sleeping pill or sedative, by inhaling the leaves, the stem and the flower, either soaked or in decoction for the application of baths.
