Organic Agriculture VS Conventional Agriculture

Costs

Much of the consumer price is represented by the costs incurred once the products leave the farm, this is due to the different stages of processing. The marketing costs of organic products are higher due to the need to keep them separate and thus preserve their organic identity. Furthermore, certification and the small scale of distribution contribute to raising costs. As organic agriculture gains greater market share, economies of scale can significantly lower these costs.

Benefits

In this type of agriculture, it takes into account the medium and long-term effects on agricultural interventions of the agroecosystem. It proposes to produce foods that also establish an ecological balance to protect soil fertility and avoid pest problems. Therefore, its benefits are long-term, some areas of our ecosystem benefit from this agriculture such as:

  • Soil and water pollution

  • Preserve local wildlife

  • Conserve biodiversity

  • Global warming

  • Erosion

Costs

The economic costs in conventional agriculture are higher compared to organic. Conventional agriculture has higher costs due to the use of fuel in machinery, the use of herbicides and pesticides and synthetic chemical fertilizers. The environmental costs of conventional agriculture are the damages caused using synthetic chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides. Damage caused by the contamination of soil, water and air.

Benefits

It uses traditional seeds, improved and certified seeds as treated seeds. Nourishes and protects the crop with chemical or organic synthesis technologies. It tends to be more extensive and productive due to the use of tools that facilitate this modality.
